Outsourcing Insights wishes you the best for 2012
We’re excited to start a new year at DATAMARK, and we wish our Outsourcing Insights readers the best of health and prosperity for 2012.
We’re not the only ones who think the next 12 months will be great—62 percent of Americans are optimistic about what 2012 will bring for the country, and 78 percent are looking forward to what the new year will have in store for their family, according to a new Associated Press-GfK poll.
One reason the DATAMARK family is optimistic about 2012 is the health of the freight transportation industry—an indicator of the strength of the economy as a whole. As you probably know, DATAMARK processes transportation documents for a number of top freight carriers, and we’re pleased to see some good numbers coming out of the industry:
- Transportation Topics reports that the American Trucking Associations’ truck tonnage index is approaching two consecutive years of year-over-year growth, outpacing the economy as a whole.
- Privately owned general freight and specialized freight trucking companies are experiencing 14 percent sales growth over the past year, a number that beats out the single-digit growth of the U.S. GDP.
- Freight shipments as measured by the U.S. DOT Transportation Services Index have continued a steady climb to 109.4 in October, after hitting a low of 94.3 back in 2009.
This month, our Outsourcing Insights newsletters will focus on the freight industry. We’ll highlight ways business process outsourcing can help freight carriers stay financially healthy while keeping customers happy through 2012.
