New Gartner Report Looks a Few Years Ahead
Cloud computing and the “always-connected” mobile digital lifestyle will continue to shake up IT organizations across all industries, according to a new forecast by the Gartner analyst firm.
That’s really not groundbreaking news, but the Gartner report, “Top Industry Predicts 2012: Industries Face Intensified Consumerization and Technology Disruption,” pulls together some useful percentages and timelines—particularly for the healthcare industry—that CIOs and IT managers can use for long-term planning strategies.
One prediction that caught our attention is that at least one social network will become a place where users will shop for insurance coverage. As DATAMARK moves into contact center services, we recognize that social networks such as Facebook will evolve into a marketplace where people catch up with friends while discussing, reviewing and shopping for products and services. Contact center staff will also be residents of this virtual marketplace, stepping in to assist and support customers when needed.
Taken from the recent Gartner press release, here are some of the predictions on how technology will transform IT processes in the healthcare and insurance fields:
- By 2013, iPad and other tablet computer penetration among pharmaceutical sales reps will reach 85 percent, then shift to applications that improve delivery and interaction tracking.
- By 2014, 30 percent of U.S. private healthcare payers will acquire providers, forcing integration of application suites as delivery and finance merge.
- By year-end 2014, at least one social network provider will become an insurance sales channel.
- By 2015, 20 percent of integrated delivery systems will be investing in new healthcare-targeted customer relationship management (CRM) systems
